Brazilian Picnic / Pool Party

I developed this picnic concept when attending an outdoor concert for legendary Brazilian musician Gilberto Gil. The idea is well-suited for any sunny occasion and will work just as well for a pool party or picnic setting. When I thought about what type of food I wanted to prepare for the picnic, my goal was to treat my friends to an authentic Brazilian rodizio / churrasco experience. Although, one would think it would be difficult to recreate the famed Brazilian barbeque in a picnic setting, thoughtful dish selection and planning will guarantee a memorable and delicious outing!

Other elements THE MUSIC: Nothing can transport guests’ imagination to the far off beaches of Rio De Janeiro quite like beautiful and unique Brazilian music. The relaxing sounds of bossa nova go great with a beautiful, sunny day at a pool party or picnic! More information THE FOOD: Filet mignon medallions with chimichurri sauce Chouriço sausage (any spanish sausage can substitute) Teriyaki chicken tenders wrapped with bacon Assortment of grilled vegetables, cheeses, dried and cured meats Pão de queijo (yuca cheese bread, if you can find it…) Plantain chips (if you can find it…) I prepared the filet, chouriço, chicken, and grilled vegetables at my home before the picnic, taking care to carve bite-size pieces for easy eating. The chimichurri was carried in a separate container which allowed guests to add it themselves. All items were chilled, transported in a cooler to the party, and served cool. THE DRINKS: Caipirinha / caipiroska Sangria All ingredients for the caipirinha / caipiroska were carried separately (including limes pre-sliced into eighths, sugar, crushed ice, vodka, and cachaca) and assembled at the picnic with a muddler, sturdy glass, and straws (umbrella optional). I made the sangria at home and carried it in its own water cooler style cooler to serve via its trusty spout.
