I had a fantastic wedding at Bayard's. Countless guests commented on how unique the space was (even for NYC) and how amazing the food was (which is a rarity for weddings).
I did, however, have a fairly negative experience with the event coordinator who was quite immature and condescending. Her first response to most of my requests (albeit, she was always quick to respond to emails and calls) was an eye roll followed with a “trust me, I’ve done a million of these.” Yet in critical moments, like the floor planning, she made last-minute changes after realizing she got it wrong (she added an extra room that she had earlier told me, quite adamantly, was not needed due to the size of my wedding). This would have been OK had I been allowed to stop by to evaluate the changes in person (all I needed was 15 minutes, any time of day), but she was not at all accommodating and made me wait 2 weeks to do so (and when we did show up, kept repeating her mantra, “don’t worry, we know what we’re doing.”).
There were other unacceptable moments such as when she called my mother a “nervous nelly” and repeatedly instructed us to not show up any earlier than 5PM for a 7PM wedding (while we were doing some of the decorating ourselves, as well as taking family photos there).
I was displeased for having been put in a position where I feared she would screw up my wedding if I were to assert myself and demand the better service my family deserved. This left such a bad taste in my mouth because everyone else we dealt with (from the maitre-d to the coat check attendant) was OUTSTANDING (including the managers, who were very accommodating when we wanted to make some changes to the bar and menu) - I cannot emphasize this enough. This is why I am still highly recommending Bayard's, but I think it is worth being aware of the whole situation.
