This is not a bride, this is a groom, so please keep that in mind while reading.
I have a double major, in jazz composition and performance from the Berklee College of Music, and am generally a music enthusiast. In my opinion, the most important pieces for our wedding were, in order of priority, the band, the food, and the venue.
I spent a significant amount of time researching bands in our area (Philadelphia), went to wedding band showcases, etc, but no band impressed me to a degree to which I'd be willing to spend $7-$12k.
I was browsing the internet, and came across The Engagements on YouTube. I wrote a note via 'Contact Us' page on their website, saying 'Probably not able to do our wedding, you look too expensive, it's 2 months prior to the gig, and you're in NYC, but can you make any recommendations b/c you guys look awesome', that kind of thing. Got a call back from Aaron, the drummer/band leader, an hour later.
He checked with the rest of the band, met me halfway on budget, and we booked The Engagements 2 days later.
From there everyone in the band executed absolutely seamlessly. Prior to the event Aaron spent a ton of time going through songs with me, and basically bent over backwards to make everything I wanted to happen a reality. Without going minute by minute, The Engagements, in my opinion, my wife's opinion, and in the opinion of every person in attendance, were the best wedding band we'd ever seen.
Friends/family still talk about these guys/girls almost reverently, and after 6 months I've had people say to me at least 5 times, while at other people's weddings at which a band of similar size/assumed budget is performing, "Your band was so much better than these guys". Keep in mind these other bands are charging $10k+ (showcase bands, etc).
Do yourself a favor and book these guys, it was the second best thing that happened on my wedding day. Jon Collins, Philadelphia, PA - jacollins1@gmail.com
