Jetsetter.com provides you with this service called "travel expert." Basically, they have hundreds of professional travel writers who specialize in different parts of the world, and they hook you up with one of them depending on the region you want to visit. They are people who have spend months, or even years in these cities and they recommend you hotels, special activities, etc. It's $200 to receive this service, but they give you $100 back if you book the recommended hotels through them. They are not just the hotels Jetsetter has deals with. Basically any hotel you want to book in this world, they try to negotiate a deal for you with them. They match the lowest price you find ANYWHERE, for ANY hotel. And then give you $100 back.
I booked my honeymoon through a Jetsetter travel expert. While the expert himself was GREAT, communication was very limited because Jetsetter was mediating our communication. I still got a lot of great information out of his advices, and did save money by booking the hotels through Jetsetter, I was a bit disappointed at the Jetsetter team's attitude. Also, there were miscommunications that left me and my husband stranded at an airport in Thailand without the promised limo TWICE.
Though it was disappointing, I think I would still use Jetsetter when I am taking a long-term trip because I can save a lot of $$ by booking hotels through them AND get a first-hand advice from someone who knows that region of the world VERY well. So if you're traveling to an area where you know nothing about, this is probably the best thing you can do for yourself.
