After Pochron Studios closed, putting our all of our wedding plans on life support, we walked into Midtown Loft and Terrace to see if it was at possible to host our wedding on short notice. Marzena, the primary contact, was awesome from the very beginning. She genuinely empathized with our situation, and was incredibly flexible with our needs. Fortunately, our wedding date (August 1st) was still available. On the downside, it was about $3,000 dollars more than Pochron (and our budget). Understanding the situation Pochron put us in, Marzena offered to cut $1500 off the cost, and allowed us to break the payments into fourths to help us manage it (as opposed to half up front) while we waited for our refund to come in from Pochron.
If you are looking for a genuine Manhattan wedding, the venue couldn't be more perfect. The roof deck sits right underneath the Empire State Building, a view that even local New Yorkers were awed by, to say nothing of the reaction from those out of town. The deck has a new wood flooring, separate glass-enclosed room, lights on the brick wall, and other touches that provide elegance. Even more impressive, it has a sound system wired to plug into an iPod, giving you an easy (and affordable) way to provide music all night. A small kitchen is located in a separate room, making it easy on the caterers to prepare and serve cocktail appetizers. It was also able to keep a nice breeze despite the summer heat, keeping kept the guests comfortable. It is ideal for a classy cocktail hour, giving everyone a genuine taste of NYC.
The loft, directly beneath the roof deck, is beautiful and modern as well. The have a huge modern kitchen providing your caterer plenty of space to prepare the dinner. They provide several couches and tables which help give a sense of relaxed comfort. There are plenty of air conditioners to keep the venue cool even in the heat of August, and soft, adaptable lighting. They provide several staff members during the event in case any problems arise, and even stored some left over boxes until we could come by the next day to pick them up. The only issue we had was with the elevators - they can only carry about 10 guests or so up at a time, so if you are dropping guests off via buses, as we were, it can take awhile for them all to get up to the top.
All in all, we would highly recommend Midtown Loft and Terrace for anyone looking for a true city wedding. If it sounds like we are raving about it, that is probably because it has been two weeks since our wedding, and we still haven't stopped hearing from people how awesome the venue was. You can't go wrong here.
